We're thrilled to donate a portion from every September membership to the BLUEBARN Theatre in Omaha, Nebraska. Scriptd is curated with love in Omaha, and so for our inaugural month we wanted to feature an organization close to home.

When you think of Omaha, Nebraska what comes to mind? Corn fields and cattle are probably close to the top of the list. However, Omaha is actually an underrated gem of a city. There's a great food scene, lots of community-minded companies, a booming tech/startup industry, and lots of arts and culture. You'll find several of fabulous art museums, a world-class symphony and opera company, a beautiful performing arts roadhouse, and the nation's largest community theatre (to name just a sampling)!

At the forefront of Omaha's non-profit theatre community is the BLUEBARN Theatre. Founded in the late 1980s, the BLUEBARN recently moved to a stunning new home (one of the 8 best things built in 2016 according to Slate).

The organization's mission is to "enhance the cultural life of Omaha, Nebraska by producing professionally executed, boundary breaking plays that ignite a passion for the art form. BLUEBARN is dedicated to theatre’s most important tradition: to provoke thought, emotion, action, and change."

BLUEBARN produces relevant and challenging plays, and provides spectacular entertainment in an intimate and personal theatre space. Their most recent season included Taylor Mac's Hir -- a work our Scriptd member's will be enjoying in the September shipment -- which had a good reception. And, one of the most entertaining performances I attended this year was their heartfelt production of Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert.

If you'd like to learn more about BLUEBARN, learn how you can support their work, or look at what their upcoming season contains (I'm particularly excited about Every Brilliant Thing and Venus In Fur) visit their website here.
